Graduate Program (Master Program, Doctoral Program)

Degrees are conferred to students who have completed the required credits within the following duration of coursework and enrollment and submitted their thesis after passing the qualification exam for thesis submission.

  • Duration of Coursework: A minimum of two years (4 enrollments) for the master’s program and the doctoral program
  • Duration of Enrollment: A maximum of four years for the master’s program, a maximum of six years for the doctoral program
  • Required Credits: A minimum of 24 credits for the master’s program, a minimum of 36 credits for the doctoral program (a minimum of 60 credits including the credits from the master’s program)
  • Thesis Qualification Exam: Students can submit their thesis after passing the exam on major courses and foreign languages.
  • Duration for Thesis Submission: A minimum of four years after completing the coursework for the master’s program. A minimum of six years after completing the coursework for the doctoral program. Students in both master’s and doctoral programs may extend their duration within two years.

Teacher’s Certification for the Master’s Program

  • 01Recognition of Credits Acquired Before Admission at the Undergraduate (or Graduate) Level

    - Applicants should submit their transcripts issued from their universities at the time of admission to confirm the recognition of their credits from the major courses and teaching profession courses.

  • 02Beginning in 2009, enrolled students are required to earn a total of 50 credits to become professional school counselors for secondary schools.

    - (44 credits on subject curriculum, a minimum of 6 credits on subject education)

    3) Exemption from Teaching Profession Courses

    • For students who enrolled in 2009 and after, students who have a Level 2 Teacher’s Certificate or higher and intend to acquire another teacher’s certificate are exempted from taking the entire teaching profession courses (22 credits).
    • For teacher trainees from 2008 and after, trainees who have a Level 2 Teacher’s Certificate or higher are exempt from participating in teaching practicum regardless of the type of certificate.

    - Credits from previous universities or graduate schools will be recognized (Undergraduate courses completed while attending graduate school are recognized up to a maximum of 28 credits.)
